There’s a pretty auspicious—or perhaps, pawspicious—holiday on the books for June 24. It’s Cat World Domination Day! This cute little occasion celebrates these charming little balls of fun and curiosity. You do have to admit, for being so small, cats really do have a way of wrapping us around their little paws. A local Town N Country, FL vet offers some tips on celebrating with Fluffy in this article.
What Is Cat World Domination Day?
Cat World Domination Day is a celebration of kitties, their larger-than-life cattitudes, and our longstanding friendship with them. Of course, if Fluffy ever does manage to take over the world, it will probably change into something much more formal.
To delve a bit into the history of the holiday, Cat World Domination Day was started back in 2012 by the humans owned by the kitties of the sparklecat blog, as a birthday gift. At least, that’s the official story. Unofficially, it may very well mark the date that Fluffy decided to go for World Domination.
Do Cats Really Want To Dominate The World?
We honestly can’t answer this one with any sort of verification. The last three people that tried to research the topic went missing under suspicious circumstances, and have never been seen again.
What Would Happen If Cats Actually Did Take Over The World?
We can give a bit more of an informed answer on this one, as our feline patients have definitely given us some insight into what to expect.
As far as we can tell, Fluffy’s list of official demands would include the following:
Statues: You could probably plan on massive feline statues going up in every town square. All streets and towns would probably be renamed after famous cats. Given that there aren’t that many famous cats, this would inevitably result in every town consisting of several Garfield drives, avenues, roads, parkways, circles, courts, and lanes.
Catnip Gardens: Another infrastructural change we would probably see would be the installation of catnip gardens. Fluffy also likes Spider plants and honeysuckle, so those would likely be included as well.
No More Mondays: In honor of Garfield, you could expect Mondays to be banned from the calendar. It would be replaced by a second Wednesday.
Stocked Moats/Ponds: Fluffy would also probably want to see stocked ponds and moats in front of every home. This one actually isn’t quite as farfetched as you may think. In ancient China, cats were so beloved that many villages actually did stock fishponds just for kitties.
Food/Water Stations For Strays: On a more serious note, there are millions of stray cats in the world. With our feline overlords front and center and running things, one good thing we would hope to see would be more support and resources for homeless kitties. This one is also actually based on reality. In Turkey, for instance, stray cats are basically treated as communal pets. Many businesses leave food and water out for them, and allow the kitties to come in and enjoy a comfy napping spot. Fluffy is also living the easy life in Italy, where similar practices keep the country’s felines sheltered and fed.
New Building Codes: Do you have a built-in walkway and catio for your feline pal? Does Fluffy have a bed and a comfy window seat in every room, and at least one cat tower? Have you installed a kitty garden and at least one box castle? If so, you won’t have to worry about making major changes. Otherwise, you may find yourself obligated to complete certain renovations.
Is There Any Evidence That Kitties Are Trying To Take Over The World?
We have yet to discover any actual files or hard data on this one. However, there are some historical clues to consider.
First, there is of course ancient Egypt. Fluffy managed to convince the ancient Egyptians to treat her as a deity. There is even an Egyptian cat goddess. In fact, kitties were so beloved in ancient Egypt that when a family’s feline passed on, her humans would shave their eyebrows in mourning. The Sphynx is of course another solid example of how respected (or perhaps feared) cats were in that society.
Fluffy didn’t fare too badly in ancient Siam, either. She was the favored pet of many royal and noble families, and was of course completely pampered.
Cats have also left their mark in some less majestic ways. Those telltale kitty pawprints have been found on medieval manuscripts and in cement from ancient Roman buildings!
We also may need to look at the fact that Man’s Second Best Friend has been secretly training for this takeover for decades. Fluffy has been working on mastering her claws and teeth for a very long time. In fact, kittens almost immediately start trying to figure out how to scratch and bite. (They usually do this by practicing on us, but that’s another topic.)
Kitties haven’t just been working on martial arts, though. They’re also focused on mastering computer programming, which they do by sleeping on laptops and walking across keyboards. They’ve been reading, which they also do by sleeping on books. Our feline pals have also dipped their paws into various careers, and have learned about spycraft, politics, and retail, to name just a few things.
Last but not least, we can’t forget the fact that kitties are actually adorable little serial killers. These cute, innocent-looking balls of fur kill billions of small animals every year. Ask your Town N Country, FL vet for tips on keeping your feline pal safe.
What Is The Cat Treatise?
One of the strongest pieces of evidence regarding cat world domination is the Cat Treatise, which is also known as the Tamra Meow or The Cat-Book of Poems. This is an ancient samut khoi manuscript, and is thought to have been written between the 14th and 18th centuries by Buddhist monks. The book, as you can probably guess, is entirely about our feline friends.
How Do We Prevent Cat World Domination?
There are a few things we may be able to do to save the planet from being overrun with kitties. First and foremost? Be sure to get your feline friend fixed. Overpopulation is a huge issue, and is one of the reasons there are so many homeless cats in the world.
It’s also important to keep your own feline ruler happy, healthy, and purring. Pick up a new toy or some catnip for Fluffy! You may also want to appease her by spending a bit of extra time petting her or playing with her.
Another thing you can do? Be sure to keep your cat safe and sound indoors. This will not only help thwart Fluffy’s plans to take over the world, it will also keep her safe from things like cars, weather, predators, and parasites, as well as drastically reducing the odds of her getting lost, hurt, or worse.
You may also want to give your cute pet a special treat. Salmon, chicken, or fish would be appropriate, as long as you remove all of the skin, bones, and fat.
